Panel I: Political Empowerment
There is plenty of anecdotal evidence for the benefits of women’s political participation. For example, every one percent increase in the number of women in parliaments correlates with an increase in the amount of funds allocated to education. To improve women's involvement in policymaking it is helpful to encourage them to participate in student governments and community projects while they are young.
Unfortunately, many activists do not pay sufficient attention to the connections between various aspects of empowerment and women’s political participation. There is a great need to connect the dots between education, health, economic empowerment and beyond to foster more women’s inclusion in policymaking processes. After years of gathering best practices from around the world, we know a lot about how to empower women but there is still a need to focus on coordination and integration.
