Political empowerment
Political empowerment
Women’s political participation is closely linked with economic participation because women who can provide for themselves economically are in better position to contribute to policy debates. Further, economic wealth provides for education and professional development necessary to succeed in political circles. In addressing the lack of women’s participation in politics many countries seek to put into place quotas allocating a certain number of seats or positions to women.
The CIPE approach is to look beyond quotas and strengthen institutions that create equal opportunities for qualified women to succeed in public policy as well as develop linkages between economic and political empowerment.
